Below are some descriptions of labs done this year!
Copper Lab (single displacement tango)
In this lab we mixed chemicals with steel wool to create single displacement reaction that would isolate copper out of the formula. This lab tested our lab technique and our understanding of single displacement reactions. This lab was also a lesson in percent yield and how to calculate it in the real world. My partner and I completed this lab successfully with a relatively good percent yield. This lab was successful in helping to teach a wide range of skills needed in chemistry.
Phase Change Lab
In this lab each set of two students got a different experiment to do, my partner and I's particular experiment was the superheated steam coil. Each experiment revolved around teaching phase changes in a hands on way. Our particular experiment was a success as the results mirrored what was supposed to happen and it showed phase change in a visual way. After executing the experiment each group had to do a short presentation about their individual experiment which helped to teach all aspects of phase change to the entire class without having each person complete each experiment.
